At Zaruni, securing your transactional records and personal data is our highest priority. Because your account links directly to the Zaruni Ledger Balance—where your lock states, transactional records, and payout balance ledgers reside—we enforce industry-standard security measures to prevent unauthorized access.

One of our primary lines of defense is the Device Verification Screen. This guide explains how device verification works, how to complete the process, and how it protects your identity and funds from potential threats.

1. What is Device Verification?

Device verification is a security step that registers and pairs your physical smartphone or tablet with your Zaruni profile.

When you log in from a new device, our systems check its unique hardware footprint against your registered devices. If we detect a new browser, dynamic IP address, or device identifier, we immediately trigger the Device Verification Screen before allowing access to sensitive features.

Why We Require Verification:

  • Ledger Protection: Prevents unauthorized payouts and transactions if your login credentials (username and password) are compromised.
  • Fraud Prevention: Stops malicious actors from accessing your marketplace store or service provider profile.
  • Audit Logging: Creates an immutable audit trail of every device authorized to interact with your account.

2. Step-by-Step Device Verification Process

When you sign in on a new device, the Zaruni app will display the Device Verification Screen. Follow these steps to authorize your device:

  1. Request the Verification Code: Choose your preferred channel to receive the One-Time PIN (OTP). You can select either SMS (sent to your registered mobile number) or Email.
  2. Wait for the Code: The OTP is valid for 5 minutes. Do not close the app or navigate away while waiting.
  3. Enter the 6-Digit PIN: Type the code into the verification input fields.
  4. Confirm and Authorize: Tap Verify Device. If successful, your device will be added to your account’s trusted list, and you will be redirected to the dashboard.

[!NOTE] Zaruni will never ask for your password, PIN, or verification code over the phone or in chat. If someone claiming to represent Zaruni asks for your verification code, do not share it, and contact support immediately.

3. Managing Trusted Devices

You can view and manage all active sessions and trusted devices directly from your profile settings:

  1. Open the Zaruni App and tap on your Profile tab.
  2. Navigate to Settings & Privacy > Security > Authorized Devices.
  3. Here, you will see a list of all devices currently logged into your account, along with their location, browser type, and last active timestamp.
  4. Revoke Access: If you see a device you do not recognize, tap Revoke Access immediately. This will force an instant logout on that device and require full verification for any future login attempts.

4. Troubleshooting Verification Issues

If you are having trouble verifying your device, check the following steps:

Code Not Received via SMS:

  • Ensure you have a stable cellular connection.
  • Check if your carrier has blocked premium shortcode SMS messages.
  • Wait for the 60-second countdown timer to end, then tap Resend Code.

Code Not Received via Email:

  • Check your Spam, Junk, and Promotions folders.
  • Confirm that the email address associated with your Zaruni account is spelled correctly.
  • Add [email protected] to your email contact whitelist.

Invalid Verification Code Error:

  • Double-check that you entered all 6 digits correctly.
  • Ensure you are using the most recent code sent, especially if you tapped “Resend” multiple times.
  • Verify that your device’s system time is set to update automatically (incorrect local clocks can cause verification checks to fail).

5. Additional Security Best Practices

To keep your Zaruni account and ledger balance as secure as possible, follow these guidelines:

  • Set a Secure Ledger PIN: In addition to your account password, set a unique 4-digit PIN for your ledger. This PIN is required to authorize payout requests.
  • Enable Biometric Login: On supported devices, enable fingerprint or face recognition for fast and secure access.
  • Beware of Phishing: Always verify that you are accessing Zaruni via our official app or at the correct URL: https://www.zaruni.co.ke.
