1. Who operates this app
Mess Hall is a standalone utility app developed and maintained by Zaruni Ltd., a technology company based in Nairobi, Kenya. For privacy questions, contact us at [email protected].
This policy applies specifically to the Mess Hall app (web and Android versions). The Zaruni platform privacy policy governs the main Zaruni marketplace app separately.
2. What this app stores
Mess Hall stores the following data locally on your device only, using AsyncStorage (React Native's on-device storage). This data never leaves your device and is never transmitted to Zaruni or any third party.
- Weekly meal plan selections
- Grocery list items
- Profile preferences (budget target, serving size)
You can delete all stored data at any time from within the app. Uninstalling the app also removes all locally stored data permanently.
3. What this app never does
- Does not require you to create an account or provide an email address
- Does not transmit any data to Zaruni's servers or any third-party server
- Does not include advertising or ad tracking SDKs
- Does not use analytics tools that collect personal data
- Does not share any information with third parties
- Does not access your contacts, camera, microphone, or location
4. Third-party frameworks
All data is stored using AsyncStorage on your device only. No data is transmitted to Zaruni or any third party. The app is built with Expo and React Native.
Expo and React Native are open-source frameworks. On Android, the OS may provide the app with standard runtime information (device locale, screen size, network connectivity status) which the app uses solely for display and offline detection purposes. None of this is recorded or transmitted.
5. Children's privacy
Mess Hall does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. Because this app stores no account data and transmits nothing, it does not create any special risk for younger users. Parents who have concerns may contact us at [email protected].
6. Your rights under Kenya DPA 2019
Under the Kenya Data Protection Act, 2019, you have the right to access, correct, delete, and object to the processing of your personal data. Because Mess Hall stores data only on your own device, you can exercise these rights directly within the app (clear data) or by uninstalling it.
For any privacy-related requests or concerns, email us at [email protected].
7. Changes to this policy
If this privacy policy changes materially, the updated version will be published at this URL with a revised effective date. We will also update the app itself. Continued use of Mess Hall after a policy update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
